Make a Gift to Maru-a-Pula

Dear Friends,

Botswana has had early rains this year -- the frogs are chirping, and the cattle are fattening. The welcome rains also mark the last weeks of the 2007 academic year at Maru-a-Pula School -- the most successful year in the school's 35-year history.

  • Maru-a-Pula's 2006 IGCSE and A-Level results were the best in the school's history:
    • 45% of all A-Level exams written earned As
    • 45% of all IGCSE exams written earned A*s or As
  • More than one-third. of our Batswana students receive financial aid. We provided 73 full academic scholarships in 2007 -- up from 60 scholarships in 2005. Of these, we provided full bursaries to 20 AIDS orphans, a dramatic increase from 11 in 2006 and just two in 2005.
  • We have our highest enrollment ever -- 579 students -- which reflects our continued success in attracting and retaining local and regional students who are academically capable.

Thank you for your part in all of this success. Supporters like you have made Maru-a- Pula a model of inter-racial, coed, non-denominational education in southern Africa. And supporters like you have a vital role in helping us continue -- and grow. We hope to expand our student body to 600 students in 2008. Already, our facilities are inadequate for our students. Here's what your support can do:

  • Renovate classrooms and laboratories that no longer meet the standards and needs of a 21st century educational facility.
  • Modernize other buildings -- especially the library -- that are too small, too old, and too poorly equipped to serve MaP's dedicated students.

We are also committed to expanding access to Maru-a-Pula for students who are academically gifted but financially disadvantaged, by directing more funds to the school for scholarships and bursaries. Our work to help students develop a global, socially conscious mindset, and prepare them to attend highly selective universities, is bolstered by a diverse student body from Botswana and 40 other countries. A student base that is economically representative of the country is also fundamental to our mission. Your contribution can help us:

  • Increase the number of student scholarships and financial aid offers
  • Fund 60 AIDS orphans by 2010

The success of our work depends on the increased generosity of our donors -- worldchangers like you, who understand the direct link between education and future achievement. We are deeply grateful for your partnership in this endeavor. Please send your gift today.
